1. Introductions

1.1. Meeting, Greeting

Good morning / afternoon, everybody. Guten Morgen/Tag.
Take your seats. Bitte setzen.
I want you to stand up. Ich möchte dass Ihr aufsteht.
Let me introduce myself. Darf ich mich vorstellen.
I’m going to be your teacher this week. Ich werde Euch diese Woche unterrichten.
I’m a student teacher. Ich bin ein Lehramtsstudent.
Now let us introduce each other. Lasst uns einander vorstellen.
I will need the classroom seating chart. Ich brauche den Sitzplan.
or: could you make name cards? oder: Könnt Ihr Namenskärtchen machen?

1.2. Register

Where is the class register? Wo ist das Klassenbuch?
I haven´t filled it in. Ich habe es nict ausgefüllt.
Do you mind if I sit down? Stört es Euch wenn ich mich setze?
I have to make an entry in the register. Das muss ich im Klassenbuch eintragen.
May I borrow …? Kann ich mir … ausborgen?

1.3. Attendance

Let’s see if everyone is here. Schauen wir ob alle da sind.
Who’s missing? Wer fehlt?
Who’s absent today? Wer fehlt heute?
Who wasn’t here last time? Wer hat das letzte mal gefehlt?
Can´t you come on time? Kannst Du nicht pünktlich sein?
Make sure it doesn´t happen again. Schau dass das nicht nochmal passiert.
Have you got the doctor’s certificate? Hast Du eine Arztbestätigung?
or: your parents´ letter of excuse? oder: eine Entschuldingung von den Eltern?
I cannot excuse anybody from this lesson. Ich kann heute niemand entschuldigen.


2. Classroom Management

2.1. Arranging the classroom

Put your name cards on your desks. Gebt Eure Namenskärtchen auf den Tisch.
Put your desks together. Stellt Eure Tische zusammen.
Bring two more chairs, please. Bringt bitte noch zwei Stühle.
Hurry up so that I can start the lesson. Beeilt Euch damit ich anfangen kann.
Pull the board down. Zieh die Tafel herunter.
Push it up. Schieb sie rauf.
Can you switch the lights on / off? Kannst Du das Licht ein-/ausschalten?
We will need special equipment. Wir brauchen Spezialausstattung.

2.2. The lesson - Beginning and ending rituals

2.3. Discipline

3. Classroom Interaction

3.1. Organizing the pupils for work

Come to the front (of the class). Komm nach vor.
Go to the board. Geh an die Tafel.
Stand with your back to the class. Stell Dich mit dem Rücken zur Klasse.
Go back to your place. Geh zurück an Deinen Platz.
